Introduction

My name is Annabelle Hale. I’m a senior in high school from Saucier and a member of American Heritage Girls troop MS 0408 at First Presbyterian Church, Gulfport. I am currently working towards my Stars & Stripes Award, which is the highest achievement in AHG. As part of this, I am required to lead a community service project of at least 100 hours in duration. For my project, I have chosen to assist the Women’s Resource Center.

The Women’s Resource Center is a non-profit in Gulfport, MS which supports women and babies. The WRC provides material donations, as well as ultrasounds, pregnancy tests, parenting classes, and counseling. Last year, the WRC helped over 500 women and babies.

My Project

My project involves WRC’s two sheds, which are used to store donated diapers, clothing and other supplies. The sheds have both become very damaged and worn over the years, and donations have been damaged by high humidity and pests. I propose to renovate the sheds (repairing & replacing siding, roofs, steps, etc.) and install mini-split air conditioners and insulation. This project will allow better, safer storing of donations. The newly-improved sheds will last for 25+ more years with minimal maintenance and allow the WRC’s donations to go further, serving more mothers and babies on the Gulf Coast.
